for question # 8 I figured that the second student, Victor, should recieve the scholarship. To come to this conclusion I found the number of standard deviations from average each student was in each area that is taken into account(their grade 12 math and physics classes). I then looked at who had a higher average overall by adding their scores together and dividing them by three. Francine had an average of 91.33% and Victor had an average of 92%

I calculated the z-scores for the Math & Physics for each Francine & Victor. After the z-scores were calculated I determined who I would reccomend.
Francine: Math: 2.5 Physics: 2.75
Victor: Math: 2.667 Physics: 2.111
These were the answers I got.
In math, Victor stood out. In Physics Francine had the higher z-score.

All i did was use the Z-score formula that Mr. Max gave us and plugged in the numbers to get my answer. I would recommed Francine for Physics because his mark was higher in that department, and Victor for Math because of the same reason.

Mr. Max for number 8 I took Francine and found out the z-score for both Physics and Math, and also did the same for Victor. I took the totals of Francine's z-scores from both Phsyics and Math and added them together and did the same for Victor. I got a total z-score for Francine was 4.75, and for Victor I got 4.78. So I would recommend Victor to get te scholarship. Sorry about the phone..

So for question 8, I figured out the z-score for Francine's physics mark (2.75) and for her math mark (2.5). Then I figured out the z-score for Victor's physics(2.11) and math(2.67) mark. I had a hard time figuring out who I would pick for the entrance scholarship because the z-scores were so close.

I picked Francine for the scholarship because she had Z score in her physics class and the scholarship is for the physics department. Even though Victor had a higher math Z score, and entrance exam.
Francine - Physics : 2.75
Math : 2.5
Entrance exam: 91%
Victor - Physics : 2.11
Math : 2.67
Entrance Exam: 95%

for question 8 i didn't really know what to put in... but i tried normalcdf and i got a higher number for Victor... it was .016 ...i don't even know what this means... but i think that this means that victor should get the scholarship

For Francines, z-score of math I got 2.75, and for her physics I got 2.11. Then Victors, z-score of math I got 2.5, and then for his physics 2.67. So in math I would say that Victor did a better job, but Francine got the cake on physics since her score was higher than Victor.

im not good at this either, but for question 8 I did shadenorm(.91,.95,.93,.87,.90,.94)....and i got a thing that said argument. But, i did make some assumptions from seeing what we were shown yesterday. I assumed that Victor would be the choice out of the two because he had the overall highest average.

I didn't know how to figure out who gets the scholarship, but I know that francine's average in Sr. 4 is +2.62 and Victors is +2.39. I figured that out using the Z= formula. And Victor got higher in the entrance exam, but I still think that francine gets the scholarship.

I came to the conclusion that victor should receive the scholarship. First i figured out the z-scores of both students in both math and physics. Victor got 2.6 repeating in math, and 2.1 repeating in physics. Francine got 2.5 in math, and 2.75 in physics. I then took the z scores and figured out the average of their scores. Victor came out on top, and since his entrance exam was also higher, he should get the scolarship.

To do this question, I would start off by inserting the correct numbers into the formula. The numbers are from the chart in our question booklet. After completing this task I would get a Physics z-score of 2.75 and a Math score of 2.5 for Francine. For Victor I got 2.11 on physics and 2.67 for math. It is obvious that Francine dominated in the Math department, while Victor was victorious in the physics department.
